Celebrating River Action’s 9th Annual “EDDY” AWARDS 2009
To be awarded at a special Earth Day Ceremony, April 25, 2009!

The Eddy Awards will recognize individuals, organizations, companies, schools or governments for outstanding riverfront activity or development – well designed and environmentally responsible – in the following categories:

1. Education (innovations, program, curriculum)
2. Design (renovation, new buildings, livability)
3. River Activity (recreation, relaxation)
4. Arts (performance, written word, fine arts)
5. Stewardship (environmental enhancement of the river)
6. Revitalization (commerce, business, industry)

In Memoriam
2008: Mark Beorkrem: For more than 20 years Mark Beorkrem was one of the best known environmentalists in the Quad Cities. He was the first executive director of the QCCA and a founder of the organization. He also played a role in helping to gain ownership of the Alliance's building, the Expo Center. He began Bald Eagle Days here in the Quad Cities, now in its 20th year drew 25,000 people in 2008. He was a consultant to River Action, Nahant Marsh, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Illinois Stewardship Alliance and the Mississippi River Basin Alliance.
