Floatzilla 2021

Take part in the largest paddle on the Mississippi! Experience the Mississippi River free of commercial barge traffic. All paddle crafts are welcome to participate, but only kayaks and canoes are allowed in Lock 15.

Last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic we changed some aspects of Floatzilla. Our most popular launch sites at Leach Park, Bass Street YMCA, and the Lindsay Park Yacht Club had registrations limited to 400 paddlers, their launch windows were expanded to four hours, and we assigned half hour launch windows to each group or paddler. Buses back to each launch site from Lake Potter and Credit Island ran from 10am to 3pm. The Lockmaster at Lock and Dam 15 limited the number in the lock at one time to 50 paddlers. We also did hold the World Record attempt at Lake Potter. Registrations are now open with the same registrations in place for 2021 with the same limitations in place.

Don't have a kayak or canoe? Check out our list of outfitters that serve Floatzilla. Our outfitters will meet up with you at a launch point with the boat, then wait at Sunset Park to pick it up after you finish paddling. Please confirm your launch site and time with your outfitter as soon as possible. If changes need to be made they are easier to get done early. Find our list of outfitters HERE.

Included in your registration fee, River Action provides a shuttle service from Sunset Park and Credit Island back to each of the launch sites.

We will be having a Floatzilla volunteer orientation on Aug. 19 at Sunset Park in Rock Island, IL. This is the time when volunteers can pick up their t-shirts, understand where and what they will be doing at the event, and meet other volunteers!
